SETTING BACKGROUND
Supernatural follows brothers Sam and Dean Winchester, who travel across America in a black 1967 Chevy Impala investigating and combating paranormal events and other unexplained occurrences, many of them based on American urban legends and folklore as well as classic supernatural creatures such as vampires, werewolves, and ghosts.
PERSONALITY
What is the character's personality like? Please take care to talk about both their thoughts and motivations and their outward actions. For AUs and CRAUs, please note how their personality diverges from canon.
If you need inspiration, just list 5-10 key character traits and elaborate on them slightly.
Dean Winchester is understanding, funny, mischievous, and a little immature.
Dean has a massive caretaker instinct, especially towards his younger brother Sam, due to being left solely responsible for him since he was a child. Dean has always tried to give Sam every resource possible, sometimes at the cost of his own well-being. He took up the role of both mother and father for Sam while still only being a child himself.
In that role, he put himself between Sam and his father a lot. John Winchester was an abusive, neglectful parent who's controlling personality, alcoholism, and constant absence left Dean with a desire to live up to his father's expectations and the consistent feeling that he had failed to do so.
Dean is an extremely emotionally repressed person. His father has left such an impression of who Dean is supposed to be that Dean doesn't allow himself to act in any other way. This leads to a large part of his perceived personality to be performative rather than genuine. He performs hyper-masculinity and heterosexuality to a degree that it almost turns back into camp.
While he tries to play the part of the Han Solo-esque rebel with a devil-may-care attitude, in reality he is a very caring and empathetic person who just wants genuine emotional connection with another person. His brother and father leaving him has left him feeling lost and abandoned. In many ways he is still the four year old who lost his mother in a fire.
At the current point in his life, Dean is spending most of his time away from his father, and he hasn't seen his brother since Sam left to go to college. This is the first time in Dean's entire life that he has opportunity to explore his own identity without John Winchester looking over his shoulder. He's already begun developing interests and cultivating the parts of his personality that his dad wouldn't consider to be traditionally masculine or appropriate, even if he doesn't think of it in those terms to himself.
Dean puts his family above anything and everything else. He is willing to sacrifice himself to protect them at any costs. He doesn't consider himself to be smart, but is an excellent mechanic and has a good mind for machinery.

✧ HEALING SPELL: The character can heal another character of minor illnesses (such as a cold) or minor wounds (such as cuts, scrapes, or minor puncture wounds). If the illness or wounds of the person they're healing aren't minor, the spell can at least help make the wounds less severe, such as causing a serious stab wound to close enough to prevent a character from bleeding to death, but being unable to heal it completely.
✧ SHIELD: The character can put up a magical forcefield that blocks any magical or physical attack from coming through. Magical attacks, projectiles, and weapons cannot break through the forcefield, but people and creatures can walk through the barrier and attack from within. This force field is a circular plane that, depending on how much energy the character spends, can vary in size. The shield can be held for a maximum of five minutes.
✧ DREAMLESS SLEEP: The character can make sure up to five people have a solid, dreamless, uninterrupted eight hours of rest (not including external interruptions). This is done at the cost of their own ability to rest. If the character falls asleep while someone they have spelled is also asleep, they will experience their own night terrors and broken-up sleep.
ABILITIES
Hunting, wilderness survival, hand-to-hand combat, marksmanship, bow-hunting, bladed weapons, strategy and tactics, electronic and mechanical expertise, high alcohol tolerance, basic conning skills, in-depth knowledge of supernatural creatures (cryptids, folklore, etc.), knowledge of wards and protection sigils, familiarity with in-universe magical rituals, cooking, field medicine, and the ability to be possessed by beings of vast power without being destroyed.

Unsurprisingly, Dean spends the first fifteen minutes getting shocked every time he opens his mouth. At first he tried to be joking, then reassuring, and then he got frustrated and started cussing out whatever caused this in the first place.
Then he looks at the kid.
This whole time he’s been trying not to look at this version of himself; trying not to see himself in this child that he’s been forced to talk to.
Because that’s what he is. He’s a child.
Dean never really considered himself to be a child. After Mom died it was his responsibility to make sure Dad didn’t fall apart completely and to make sure Sam was getting taken care of. If he was old enough to learn how to shoot, he was old enough to take of himself and others. That’s what his dad said.
It’s hard to hold onto that when he sees this four year old kid sitting quietly in the mirror. He may not have felt like a child, but he sure as hell looked like one. He was one.
Dean takes a deep breath.
“Look, kid, it’s gonna suck for you. I know you’ve been ordered not to talk or whatever, but you probably wouldn’t anyway. I didn’t when I was you.
“You’re gonna spend most of your time scared that something will happen to Sammy, or that Dad will leave and not come back. That feeling never really goes away.”
He looks directly into little Dean’s eyes, trying to stress how important it is to hear this next part.
“Sammy turns out okay. He’s smart as hell, even gets into one of those fancy colleges. Dad always comes back. You know how to protect yourself and others from the bad things in the world.
“People get hurt and it’ll be your fault, but you can’t let that stop you. If you stop, that just leaves more people to get hurt.
“And Dad’s trying his best. He doesn’t know what to do without her just as much as you. He’ll show you how to take care of yourself and he’ll always come back for you and Sammy, and that’s what important.”
“Dad’s a hero-“
Zap!
Well that’s bullshit. Dad is a hero, and heroes have to leave their normal lives behind to save the day.
He tries again.
“Dad’s doing a lot of work to help people and he’s gonna teach you how to do it too. He’s even gonna give you the Impala!”
He sees his kid self smile at that.
“And one day you’ll be grown up and he’ll trust you to save the day on your own, and it’ll be you, Baby, and the open road. Sam’s safe, dad’s doing his job, and you’re doing yours.”

Your character's inner child has been separated from your character into its own individual entity by a powerful spirit, and your character can speak to them through the game's magic mirror network. The child has been commanded to listen in silence, and in an ultimate test of self-awareness, your character has been told they must talk to them and pass them wisdom and emotional honesty they've gained through life experience. Every time you character lies or is otherwise insincere about something from their adult life, they get zapped with a painful magical shock from the spirit.
